My mom’s new business sells homes with interiors personalized for imagined residents:
Everything I’ve read about selling a house is that you should neutralize the space in order to appeal to the greatest number of prospective buyers. But I’m not going to do that. I’m going to fix up this place (new kitchen, repaint from top to bottom, etc.) and then lovingly decorate it in a charming, non-neutral but universally appealing style. And I don’t need to appeal to a great many buyers, anyway. I only need to appeal to one or two, who like what I like.
The first house (on the market this Sunday) looks so sane/cozy.
I know I’m biased, but I think this is a good business idea. A house is purchased by an individual, not a demographic. I bet someone will see this place and think, “this is me”.
I think this is a pretty good idea. Now people don’t have to walk through a house imagining what it would look like if they lived there.
